Fremantle signs David Leaf for pop docs
Pop culture documentary maker David Leaf is lining up a number of non-music based projects after signing a first-look deal with distributor FremantleMedia.
Leaf, who has set up David Leaf Productions, is best known for last year’s feature documentary US vs John Lennon and Beatles’ biopic You Can’t Do That, which tells the story of the A Hard Day’s Night album.
“My sense is that the projects we work on together will be quite diverse, with me making films about iconic artists as I’ve done in the past, but also expanding to subjects that will be quite a departure,” said Leaf.
FremantleMedia, which also distributes documentaries including space feature Apollo 13: The Inside Story, political tale 638 Ways To Kill Castro, celebrity profile series Iconoclasts and the Sundance Channel’s factual series One Punk Under God with Jay Bakker, is ramping up its efforts in the pop culture field.
