Quarterlife launches via Myspace
The creators of hit US series My So Called Life and Thirtysomething are launching 36x8mins drama series Quarterlife online via social networking site MySpace.
The show, which is produced by Marshall Herskovitz and Ed Zwick’s Bedford Falls Co. and Touchstone Television, was initially devised as a pilot for US network ABC three years ago. But after it wasn’t picked up the pair decided to take the series, which costs more than $400,000 per episode, online. Myspace has not paid anything up front but there is an ad revenue share.
Herskovitz and Zwick are the latest and most high-profile producers to create web-only content. Their move follows shows such as high school horror series Prom Queen, which is produced by Michael Eisner’s Vuguru and which also aired on MySpace.
