Ratings Watch: The Rich List

Gameshow format The Rich List has been successfully sold around the world and has picked up audiences in Britain and Germany, although it flopped in the United States

The show pits two teams of contestants who have to bid on their knowledge of certain subjects, such as movies starring Tom Cruise or sports results.

BBC One launched its own local adaptation of the show, titled Who Dares Wins, on November 17 and integrated it into its National Lottery show on Saturday evenings. The show, which was created by recently acquired UK indie 12 Yard Productions, recorded an average audience share of 24.7%, compared to the public broadcaster’s 22.8% annual average.

In Germany, Sat.1 aired local version Jede Antwort zählt, from May on Saturdays in an early evening slot. The gameshow recorded an 8.2% rating, slightly less than the channel’s average of 9.8%.

US network Fox pulled the show after one episode after its November 1 2006 airing recorded only a 5% share, finishing last in its timeslot, compared to the broadcaster’s 10% average.
