Warner Bros to launch channel in India
Warner Bros. is to launch an English-language channel in India later this year.
The channel, which is a collaboration between Warner Bros. and fellow Time Warner subsidiary Turner Entertainment Networks Asia, will air a combination of the Hollywood studio’s movies and original series. Warner’s latest hits include teen soap Gossip Girl and sci-fi drama Pushing Daisies.
This follows the launch of a branded channels unit, headed by Malcolm Dudley-Smith, to develop and produce a number of Warner Bros. TV channels and video-on-demand portals across the world.
Warner Bros. has also inked a subscription video-on-demand deal with ProSiebenSat.1’s German portal Maxdome that will offer movies such as Harry Potter and series including Friends, The OC and ER to customers.
The company currently operates the successful Warner Channel in Latin America and has a number of on-demand arrangements including in the UK with cabler Virgin Media and IPTV platform BT Vision, a subscription video-on-demand deal with French IPTV platform Free and an advertiser supported video-on-demand deal with Japanese outfit USEN.
