Granada America acquires stake in Electric Farm

Granada America, the US production arm of the ITV-owned company, has purchased a stake in digital production company Electric Farm Entertainment.

Granada hopes that the deal will allow it boost its online content as well as look at opportunities for such series to move to traditional television.

Electric Farm is the digital production company responsible for new sci-fi web series Gemini Division, which stars Rosario Dawson. It has also produced sci fi series Afterworld and web comedy Woke Up Dead which features Napoleon Dynamite’s Jon Heder.

Electric Farm was set up by Hollywood veterans Stan Rogow and Jeff Sagansky and has already struck international distribution deals with Sony Pictures Television International for Afterworld and NBC Universal Digital Studios, which is selling Gemini Division.

This move is one of the first deals to see traditional production companies start to scoop up successful digital outfits and is expected to proliferate in the coming months.
