Saban buys the Digimon franchise
Haim Saban’s company has bought Digimon, the kids anime series and brand that Saban first brought to international and US markets in the late 1990s.
Saban Brands has acquired the Digimon brand and has right to exploit it outside Asia. It will team with producer and distributor Marvista, which will sell the TV series internationally.
It will start shopping the latest series, Digimon Fusion, at MIPCOM. There are about 250 half hours of Digimon TV content in all.
Marvista already distributes another show that Saban introduced to international market and has resurrected, Power Rangers.
“We’re thrilled to reconnect Saban Brands with Digimon, an entertainment franchise that embodies the strong fan base and growth potential we look for in new additions to our portfolio,” said Elie Dekel, president of Saban Brands. “We look forward to reintroducing the brand in new and exciting ways that will allow more fans to engage with Digimon.”
