Foxtel snags HBO output deal

Australian pay TV platform Foxtel has inked an output deal with HBO.

The agreement gives the News Corp.-backed pay TV operator exclusive first-run new series from HBO as well as the premium programmer’s library series.

The deal covers HBO series including The Newsroom, Boardwalk Empire, Game of Thrones and Girls. It covers all upcoming series including True Detective, starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Foxtel said it transmit the US series as soon as possible after their US air date. The new HBO content will reside on Foxtel’s Showcase channel and the catalogue shows on its new SoHo channel.

The deal includes the right to deliver HBO content via linear channels and on demand on Foxtel’s iQ set-top-box and IP delivered services such as Foxtel on Xbox 360.

Richard Freudenstein, Foxtel CEO said, “This deal will ensure our customers will always see these compelling HBO shows exclusively first-run, with many of the key dramas broadcast express from the US as soon as the day after their original air-date.”
