USA Networks cancels Signourney Weaver’s Political Animals
USA Network has decided against turning Greg Berlanti’s Sigourney Weaver-fronted miniseries Political Animals into a full series.
The cable network has passed on renewing the series for a second season following its limited run earlier this summer.
Political Animals, which starred Weaver as the secretary of State and former First Lady fighting for her political career, was critically acclaimed, although it was USA Network’s second least watched original scripted series of the year with 2.12 million viewers, just above Common Law, which was also axed.
The show also aired on Bravo in Canada and was distributed internationally by Warner Bros International Television Distribution.
Creator Greg Berlanti, who is currently working on The CW superhero series Arrow, tweeted: “Thanks everyone for the nice tweets regarding Political Animals. It remains one of the best and most rewarding experiences of my life. The cast, the crew, writers, studio and USA were all a dream to work with. We all got to make what we set out to. Couldn’t be more proud!”
