BBC orders Hurricane Sandy Superstorm documentary
UK public broadcaster the BBC has ordered a fast turnaround documentary about the hurricane that hit the US East Coast last week.
Sandy: Anatomy of a Superstorm will be a 1x60mins doc for BBC Two.
It is being made by Shine-owned Dragonfly, the production company behind Channel 4’s Terror at Sea: The Sinking of the Concordia.
The film will use science based forensic analysis to work out how Hurricane Sandy happened while examining the consequences on the infrastructure of New York City.
It will have exclusive user-generated footage and use CGI and news archive to chart the path of the destruction.
The documentary will air on BBC Two at 20.00 on Sunday November 18.
Exec producers for Dragonfly include managing director Simon Dickson. He said: “Sandy has captured the public’s imagination like no other storm this century. Our film will tell the stories of the brave New Yorkers who were caught in the eye of the storm, and whose spirited fight back has inspired the world”.
