FX orders third season of American Horror Story

US cable network FX has ordered a third season of breakout horror smash American Horror Story.

The Fox-owned broadcaster will pick up 13 episodes of the show, which will start production in the summer of 2013 and launch towards the end of next year.

This follows the success of the second season of American Horror Story: Asylum, which launched on October 17, 2012 and wraps on January 23, 2013.

The miniseries aims to launch a new show every year with no relation to the previous year and each season will include a different theme. The second season is set in 1964 in a church-run haven for the criminally insane. It stars Jessica Lange, who was also in the first season, as well as Studio 60’s Sarah Paulson.

American Horror Story was created by Glee creator Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

The show also airs internationally on Fox International Channels bouquet of networks and is distributed globally by 20th Century Fox Television Distribution.
