France 2 orders local version of Jimmy McGovern Series Accused
French public broadcast channel France 2 has greenlit a local version of Jimmy McGovern-penned British drama series Accused, TBI has learned.
The French show will be made by Troisième Oeil. The French production house already makes shows including Vous Trouvez ça Normal? (You Think this is right?) for France 2.
The UK show airs on BBC One and is produced by McGovern’s RSJ Films.
The French deal marks the first time the show has been remade locally. The deal was brokered by Lyndsey Posner, MD at Independent Talent, the agency formerly known as ICM London.
The company told TBI that it is currently looking other format deals for the show and a US version is a possibility.
All3Media International distributes the finished version of the anthology series, which, in each episode follows a person who is on trial. It has sold it to numerous international broadcasters including SVT in Sweden, Sky Deutschland and New Zealand’s TVNZ.
There are two seasons of the British show and ten episodes in all. Notable star turns have included Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) playing transvestite Tracie and Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who) as a man accused of forgery.
McGovern is best-known as the creator of Cracker, which has been remade for the US market. He also wrote The Street, The Lakes and docudrama Hillsborough.
