Canada’s V to remake Banijay’s Stars In Danger
Canadian broadcaster V is to remake controversial diving format Stars In Danger: High Diving after striking a deal with Banijay International.
The French-language network will be produced locally by La Presse Télé and will air in the second half of next year as Le Grand Saut.
Natalie Larivière, executive vice president and COO at V said: “As a general entertainment channel with a strong history of flagship sports programming, we were delighted to discover Stars In Danger: High Diving – its blend of elite sport and high octane entertainment is perfect for our audience.”
The Canadian sale is the latest international deal for the format after Banijay sold it to Fox (US), Jiangsu Satellite Television (China) and TV3 (Sweden). However, the format was also part of a dispute between Banijay and Eyeworks, which has a diving format Celebrity Splash, which has been sold to ABC (US), ITV (UK), TF1 (France) and Network Seven (Australia).
Sebastian Burkhardt, head of sales, Banijay International, added: “We are thrilled to announce yet another international license deal for Stars in Danger: High Diving. The combination of such a strong judging panel with the wealth of production skill brought by La Presse Télé, the company behind some of Canada’s most successful non-scripted productions, means the French-Canadian production is sure to fly.”
