Televisa orders Spanish-language Gossip Girl
Warner Bros. is making a Spanish-language version of youth-skewed drama Gossip Girl for Televisa.
The Mexican broadcaster has ordered a 25-episode of the series, which airs on The CW in the US. The Mexican version will be shot in Acapulco and made by Mexican producer El Mall.
It will air on Televisa’s Canal 5 this October.
The US version of the show, which follows a group of affluent urbanites, is made by Fake Empire, Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios. Warner Bros. acquired Alloy last June and owns the format.
“The show has established itself as an icon of aspirational urban lifestyle; setting trends in fashion, music and pop culture and we think that the success of the show will translate well internationally” said Andrew Zein, senior VP, creative, format development and sales, Warner Bros. International Television Production.
Pedro Torres, CEO, El Mall added: “It is the first time that a Mexican producing company and Warner Bros. get together in a production that will make history in Mexican television.”
