Amazon unearths Sony Zombieland pilot
Amazon Studios has added a Sony Pictures Television adaptation of Hollywood comedy movie Zombieland to its pilot slate.
Half-hour format Zombieland is based on the Columbia Pictures movie of the same name and follows four survivors of a zombie apocalypse whose lives consist of outwitting zombies and searching for a new home.
Rumours of a remake had first emerged in US reports in late 2011, though at the time broadcast network Fox was said to be involved. Even further back, CBS is said to have ordered a script but later passed it over.
However, Amazon has now come on board, with SPT attached to produce. The feature film’s original creative team, including producer Gavin Polone and writer/creators Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, are behind the project.
The pilot will stream free on Amazon’s Prime Instant Video in the US and Lovefilm in the UK.
“Zombieland will strive to break the rules – action, adventure, thrills, chills and laughs and all packed into a half hour format, said Wernick. “This is not your average show but Amazon is not your average network.”
It is the seventh comedy to join Amazon Studios’ slate, which comprises 13 pilots – seven comedies and six children’s shows. Viewer feedback on each will decide which will get full series orders.
Amazon Studios is the film and TV production wing of online retailer Amazon.com.
