Cineflix grabs October rights from Zodiak
UK-based Cineflix Rights has scored an exclusive first-look deal with factual producer October Films, grabbing the rights from previous distributor Zodiak Rights.
The deal, which Cineflix Rights’ senior VP of acquisitions Noel Hedges brokered, will see the distributor taking on worldwide rights to all content from London-based October for the next two years.
October’s productions include series such as World War II from Space, Back from the Dead, Letting Go and had previously been sold on the international market by Cineflix rival Zodiak.
Cineflix Rights, which is the sales arm of Canada’s Cineflix Media, currently has third-party distribution deals in place with around 50 producers, including Impossible Pictures, Windfall Films and Australian channel Seven Network. This provides it with nearly half of its 3,200 hour catalogue.
“Building our third party content is central to Cineflix Rights’ growth strategy. October’s programming is of the highest quality and is a proven success with international broadcasters,” said Cineflix Media’s CEO, Rights, Chris Bonney.
“With international programming an increasingly important part of our productions, we know our relationship with our distributor is more important than ever. We are looking forward to a productive partnership with Cineflix as a key part of our continuing growth and expansion,” added October’s MD, Denman Rooke.
Zodiak, meanwhile, will continue to distribute the long-running October Films’ series Rude Tube.
