MIPTV News: Crime pays for Cineflix Rights
UK-based distributor Cineflix Rights has sold titles from its crime programming catalogue to international broadcasters.
Among the deals, Wives with Knives, a 6x60mins series from Indigo Films that tells stories of women who have committed violent crimes against their husbands or lovers has gone to Foxtel in Australia, Discovery in Latin America and Poland.
Discovery’s Poland channels business has also bought Murder in Paradise and Karma’s a Bitch, both of which are 6x60mins and from Cineflix Productions. The former investigates tales of dream getaways torn apart by murders, while the latter sees The Sopranos’ Steve Schirripa revealing stories of how far people will go to get revenge.
TV4 in Sweden, Discovery in Latin America and Nippon in Japan have bought several seasons of Unusual Suspects, which comes from LMNO Productions, which looks at some of the most baffling crime investigations in modern law enforcement. Meanwhile, seasons one and two of Cineflix Productions’ Motives and Murders, which follows detectives as they unearth clues in chilling homicide cases, has gone to Discovery EMEA..
Discovery in EMEA and Latin America, plus UKTV and Group TVA in Canada acquired Surviving Evil, another Cineflix Productions show. The series features Charisma Carpenter, who presents real-life stories of how victims survived violent attacks and survived against the offs.
MTV Latin America has licensed seasons one to three of Murder She Solved, a 24x60minds show that follows female criminal investigators, for its US Hispanic channel, Trés.
In Asia, Fox Channels India has taken seasons four and five of the 20x60mins Cold Blood.
Chris Bonney, CEO of Rights, Cineflix Media said: “These latest deals demonstrate the continuing popularity of crime programming with broadcasters all over the world. Alongside new seasons of returning brands, we are bringing a large number of new crime titles down to MIPTV 2013, including some fantastic US series from Cineflix Productions and LMNO Productions, all of which I’m confident will deliver high ratings and develop into long running brands.”
