MIPTV News: FremantleMedia takes Cell Block remake to Cannes
The new international arm of FremantleMedia is launching drama series including the Prisoner Cell Block H reworking Wentworth at MIPTV.
Wentworth, which comes from FremantleMedia Australia and is based on Prisoner (or Prisoner Cell Block H as it was known in the UK) is set to debut on Foxtel channel SoHo. The 10x60mins series has already pre-sold to New Zealand’s TVNZ prior to its international launch.
The story revisits the Wentworth Correctional Centre and some characters of the original series and FremantleMedia International, which was formed earlier this year as part of a major FremantleMedia restructure, claims local screenings have created “a ground swell of excitement”.
FremantleMedia International is also debuting period miniseries The Making of a Lady to buyers. The show comes from Runaway Fridge and scored more than four million viewers in the UK on ITV1 when it broadcast in December last year.
David Ellender, CEO, FremantleMedia International and Kids & Family Entertainment, said: “I’m thrilled to present these exceptional new properties in our scripted portfolio, which add panache to our already enviable catalogue of renowned returning series and our burgeoning development slate.”
