UKTV launches drama-focused network
British multichannel operator UKTV is launching a new drama-themed free-to-air channel.
Drama will launch in July 8 and will mainly broadcast British dramas such as Pride and Prejudice, The Cinder Path and Sharpe, along with Lark Rise to Candleford and classic comedy Auf Wiedersehen Pet.
UKTV controller Emma Tennant (pictured) said: “Drama is targeted at a different audience demographic than our other highly successful free-to-air channels, Dave, Yesterday and Really. The channel is aimed at people who simply love drama and want to watch critically acclaimed shows that have absolutely defined the landscape of British television.”
The channel is the first to join UKTV’s portfolio since Really in May 2009.
UKTV claims to have increased its audience share by 10% last year.
