ProSieben buys Warner Bros. entertainment formats
ProSiebenSat.1 has picked up a pair of formats from Warner Bros.
The German free-to-air broadcaster has taken rights to Barely Legal Drivers and Date Night from Warner Bros. International Television Production.
The Barely Legal Drivers format puts young drivers to the test. They take to the road for the first time in a car rigged with cameras so that their parents can watch. If they prove sufficiently proficient behind the wheel they get to keep the car. The show started on BBC Three in the UK in April and was regularly the best-performing show of the night on the youth-skewing digital channel
The UK version is made by Renegade Pictures, which is part of Warner Bros.-owned Shed Media.
Interactive dating format Date Night, meanwhile, offers viewers the chance to go out with someone they see on the show. Singletons pitch themselves to viewers who get a chance to date them in the following week’s episode.
It will debut in the UK, on free-to-air channel Channel 4, later this year and Warner Bros.’ TwentyTwenty will produce.
Jürgen Hörner, chairman of the managing board of P7S1 said the broadcaster first saw the Date Night format at a pitching event in Budapest in March. “Its interactive approach had us intrigued right from the start,” he said. “Barely Legal Drivers, too is a perfect fit for our TV group,” he added.
