Global nets board animal extinction doc

Eleven international broadcasters have pre-bought Gambling on Extinction, a new 1x52mins doc about illegal endangered animal trading, TBI has learned.

ZDF and ARTE in Germany and France, DR in Denmark, SVT in Sweden, VRT in Belgium, TG4 in Ireland, TVP in Poland, Czech TV, TV3 Catalunya, TVI in Portugal, Yes Doku in Israel and SBS Australia are all attached to the film.

France’s Java Films distributes the doc and secured the sales following a successful screening at Doc/Fest in Sheffield this month.

Latin American prodco A&E Bueno and Canada’s Reel to Reel are coproducing the film, which looks at unscrupulous investors that speculate on the disappearance of rare animals and the increased demand for animal products from Asia – both of which are contributing factors to pushing endangered animals into extinction.

The film, directed by Jakob Kneser, is set to deliver in June next year.
