Discovery orders second factual drama mini
Discovery Channel is developing a miniseries based on the Scottish legend of William Wallace – its second scripted series after Klondike.
Currently known as Untitled William Wallace and Robert the Bruce Project (WT), it is based on Nigel Tranter’s historical books.
It will follow the lives of Scottish patriots Wallace and Robert Bruce and their parts in the turbulent times at the end of the thirteenth century after King Edward I of England invaded Scotland and imposed his rule.
Wallace lead to subsequent rebellion against the English, while Bruce rallied tirelessly against English rule.
Discovery has hooked up with Scott Free Productions to create the series, with Ridley Scott and David W. Zucker serving as executive producers.
Earlier this year, Discovery launched its first scripted series, Gold Rush-themed Klondike, which it also coproduced with Scott Free, along with Entertainment One. The show is set to debut next year.
