Roku adds Channel 5, Toon Googles
Streaming set-top box firm Roku has added UK broadcaster Channel Five’s Demand 5 catch-up service and on-demand kids VOD service Toon Goggles to its line-up of content.
Demand 5 will be available on Roku boxes in the UK from this week and will offer a range of catch-up content as well as a library of programmes such as Big Brother, Dallas (pictured), CSI and Neighbours.
US-based Toon Goggles, an online destination for animated and live action kid-safe and parent-friendly programming, goes live on Roku in the UK, Republic of Ireland, US and Canada.
“Roku is a leader in providing premium content to millions of homes, and our partnership with them gives us an exceptional opportunity to expand our reach and introduce new audiences to our selection of fun and entertaining programming,” said Jimmy Huynh, director of internal operations, Toon Goggles.
Commenting on the Channel Five deal, Steve Shannon, general manager of content and services, Roku, said: “As a leading television network in the UK, Channel Five is one of the most-requested content services by our customers there. We have always recognized the importance of region-specific content and are pleased to now offer Demand 5 on all Roku players in the UK.”
The news comes days after Roku investor BSkyB launched its Now TV Box – a white label version of a set-top by Roku. Last week Sky News also launched on Roku boxes in the US, Canada, UK and Ireland.
