The Magic runs out for Starz series
Starz has cancelled its original drama Magic City after two seasons.
The series, which is set in Miami in the late 1950s, was one of the US premium cable network’s first original shows and debuted in March of last year. It was created by movie producer Mitch Glazer (Scrooged) who was also the showrunner.
Starz announced the second season before the first had finished airing. Season two averaged 431,000 viewers compared with 416,000 for the first season.
“This was a story born from Mitch Glazer’s singular vision of Miami, the Magic City of his childhood, and we are grateful to him for bringing it to life on Starz,” the cable net said. “The season’s story arc will allow us to deliver a satisfying conclusion to the series, and we thank all the fans who checked in to the Miramar Playa [hotel].”
Upcoming originals include pirate series Black Sails, Arctic-set drama Fortitude and dance series Blackpool. Time travel series Outlander and a show based on Augustus Caesar are in development.
