Irish broadcaster reaches for Gong’s Pressure Point
Irish broadcaster TV3 has commissioned a daily access primetime format from Nordic producer Gong Media.
TV3 and Gong will work together on Pressure Point, representing both the first time the Irish net has taken the co-development route and Gong’s first move into the Irish market. They will also jointly own and exploit the format internationally.
The 20x30mins show is billed as a ‘classic game-show with a twist’ and sees five contestants decide whether to protect themselves or attack opponents in fast-paced general knowledge question rounds.
It was developed by Henrik Biskjaer (pictured), group head of acquisitions and development at Gong’s Nordic production alliance parent Nice, and TV’s head of development and new formats Andrew Byrne; and will be produced by 3studios at TV3’s new Sony HD Studio Dublin complex.
“We are strongly committed to working with like-minded producers and broadcasters when it comes to breathing life into local adaptations of our formats,” said Biskjaer. “TV3, with its strong Irish editorial identity, its focus on fresh and original programming, and its superlative HD studio facilities, is the perfect partner for Nice and the perfect home for Pressure Point.”
Jeff Ford, the former controller of UK broadcaster Channel 5 and now TV3 group director of content, added: “I’ve no doubt that the show, which will be shot in our new Sony HD Studio, will be a huge success. With a fast-paced format and just right amount of tension, it has all the makings of a truly great programme.”
