Lovefilm snags exclusive Under the Dome rights
Lovefilm has inked a deal with CBS Studios International giving it exclusive UK streaming rights to hit drama series Under the Dome.
Commercial broadcaster Channel 5 has UK free-to-air rights to the series, which has been a hit on CBS in the US and around the world.
The show is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. It tells the story of a small town suddenly cut off from the world when a huge dome cuts it off from the world.
In the UK streaming service Lovefilm has snagged online rights. The exclusive deal means the Amazon-owned service will be the only SVOD platform to carry the show. It will launch on Lovefilm in mid-2014.
In the US CBS has already licensed Under the Dome to Amazon for its Prime Instant Video service, which streams episodes after they debut on the CBS broadcast network.
Armando Nuñez, president and CEO of the CBS Global Distribution Group, said: “This agreement illustrates the growing opportunities around the world to create additive and complementary ways to monetise our content.
