Turkish version of The O.C. launches on Star

Youth-skewed drama The O.C. is the latest US scripted series to be remade in Turkey.

Broadcaster Star has commissioned a local version that is being made by Turkish prodco Ay Yapim. The thirteen episode local version debuted on Star last week.

The Turkish remake is the first time the Warner Bros.-owned series has been made outside the US.

The show aired on Fox in the US for four seasons starting in 2003. It follows a group of friends and their families as their lives are changed forever when an outsider arrives into their affluent ocean-side community.

The original version was made by Wonderland Sound and Vision and College Hill Pictures in association with Warner Bros. Television.

“We are really pleased to be working with Ay Yapim and Star TV on the Turkish version of The O.C. Today, the standards are so high in drama, so we are delighted with what they’ve done with such an iconic format – it looks glossy and perfectly replicates the original series with a Turkish twist,” said Andrew Zein, senior VP, creative, format development and sales, Warner Bros. International Television Production.
