Broadcasters get treatment from Indian Doctor

BBC One drama The Indian Doctor has sold to four major broadcasters, including a multi-territory deal with SPI International.

The 15x60mins show, which Content Television distributes, has gone to TV2 in Denmark, Sky Network in New Zealand, Israeli cable operator Dori Media Spike and SPI for Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania, Former Yugoslavia, Middle East, Africa and India.

The show has previously sold into Africa, Australia, Belgium, Benelux, Finland and Brazil.

Greg Phillips, President, Content Television and Digital says, “The Indian Doctor’s true to life storylines, strong characterisations, gentle humour and high production values are proving hugely popular in the global market, as part of the growing demand for UK programming abroad.

The series will officially launch at MIPCOM next month.

The period drama follows a highly educated Indian doctor that moves to the UK to work in the then-new National Health Service only to find themselves sent to a Welsh coal mining village. It comes from Rondo Media and Avatar Films.
