UK factual prodco Nerd TV opens LA office, staffs up
UK independent producer Nerd TV is opening an LA production office having recently won several US series and pilot commissions.
Nerd said it is developing three pilots for US channels. These come in addition to a commission earlier this year from OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network for Dogfellas (WT), a fact-ent series about a mobster who opens a dog grooming parlour. Discovery also ordered a mobster-related Nerd series earlier this year, Inside the Gangster’s Code.
The new US office will be managed by Nerd’s co-founder and creative director John Farrar. The company said it is looking for an LA-based head of development and a new US production team.
Jago Lee, managing director at Nerd TV said: “Having won a number of commissions with US networks and developing more original content for channels in the US, it is critical that we meet the growing expectations and ambitions the company has in the US. It is a notoriously competitive market but we are producing unique content and we hope to build on our success by opening a production base on the ground in LA.”
Nerd is the production firm set up with investment by Survivor and The Word creator Charlie Parsons and founded by former Tiger Aspect executives Jago Lee and John Farrar. Red Arrow bought into Nerd last year.
