New Kids on the Block to party with TV Guide
American boy band New Kids on the Block have landed their own reality series on TV Guide Network, as the US cable channel moves further into development.
Rock the Boat: New Kids on the Block will see the 1980s band boarding a week-long cruise with obsessed fans for a “high seas” party. Jarrett Creative Group is executive producing in association with band member and actor Donnie Wahlberg.
The show is one of seven in development at TVGN, which is moving into development seven months after CBS Corp. acquired a 50% of stake in the channel for a reported US$100 million from One Equity Partners. TVGN then unveiled four originals in July.
“We have commissioned a slate of original projects that capture compelling and exciting stories of Hollywood, fandom and obsession,” said Brad Schwartz, president of entertainment and media, TVGN. “TVGN is committed to doing what CBS and Lionsgate do best – create hit shows that audiences love.”
The other shows are TMI, a Hollywood gossip magazine show from Lionsgate Television and Rogue Atlas Productions; Watch! Magazine TV Project, billed as a “part travel show, part celebrity biography, part high fashion” show from TV Guide Productions; and Celebrity Celebrity, a celebrity-themed gameshow from Avalon Television and others including The West Wing star Joshua Malina.
Have You Scene My Room is a home makeover show in which superfans’ rooms are transformed into real-life Hollywood tributes and comes from Trium Entertainment, while Tour Wars is a reality series highlight the competitive tour-giving vendors of Hollywood Boulevard. It comes from Rogue Atlas and Four Henrys Productions in association with Lionsgate.
Finally, The Story Behind (WT), from TV Guide Productions, will get the inside story of popular television series such as Friends and ER and include interviews from the likes of Steven Spielberg.
