US deal for Rising Star
ABC has ordered a ten-episode US version of Rising Star, the next-generation singing format distributed by Keshet International.
The US broadcast network ordered the format from Keshet DCP, marking the first deal for the recently created joint venture between Israel’s Keshet and Dick Clark’s US prodco.
Rising Star will bow next summer on ABC and the US deal is the latest for the singing talent show. It has already been picked up by broadcasters including M6 in France, RTL in Germany. ITV is expected to announce it has the UK rights shortly, as TBI reported last week.
The original series was made by Tedy Productions for Keshet Channel 2 where it generated huge ratings and audience interactivity.
The interactive talent format gives viewers a real-time voting opportunity through a free app integrated into the show. If a performer secures 70% of the viewers and the judges’ votes, a screen rises in the studio and the singer is revealed to a live studio audience.
The US deal was brokered by talent agency WME.
