Cartoon Network Asia making first international shows
The Asian division of Cartoon Network is making two original shows for its channels in the region and for worldwide distribution.
The Turner-owned kids channel has greenlit Exchange Student Zero and Monster Beach (pictured).
Exchange Student Zero will be a 13x22mins series about two boys who bring Hiro, an anime character from a fantasy card game, to life and pass him off as an exchange student. Monster Beach will be a one-off special about surfing and monsters.
Both shows will be produced by Australia’s Bogan Entertainment Solutions.
Cartoon has been making originals for its channels in Asia for some time, but this marks the first time it has created new content that will be taken to the international market.
“Since the very early days at Cartoon Network in Asia Pacific we have produced local content,” says Mark Eyers, Turner’s chief content officer in the region. “Exchange Student Zero confirms our continued commitment to producing exclusive and compelling creator-driven local content with export potential.”
