Comedy Central UK taps Wall to Wall for development boss
Pay TV channel Comedy Central UK has hired a Wall to Wall exec to become its head of development and unveiled a pair of new international programming deals.
Mia Lane will be responsible for sourcing and developing original commissions, reporting into Lourdes Diaz, VP, development and production at Comedy Central’s UK-based international unit.
She will act as the channel’s link to indie producers, writers, directors, agents and comedic talent, having previously worked for the likes of Sony-owned Gogglebox and Endemol.
Meanwhile, Comedy Central’s international channels is piloting studio comedy Medics, which comes from Misfits producer Clerkenwell Films. The pilot will be shot next month and follow a second-year medical student struggling to follow in the footsteps of his successful doctor father. Comedy Central’s Diaz executive produces alongside Murray Ferguson, Andy Baker and Ed Macdonald for Clerkenwell Films.
Comedy Central is also adapting US script Operation Slut through a deal with writer Tom Edge (Pramface, Threesome). The original came from Taii K. Austin (Nurse Jackie, Scrubs).
The multi-camera comedy follows a neurotic 30 year-old do-gooder focused on getting married who finds she is not ready for commitment and is then decides to embark on a series of no strings attached encounters. Diaz executive produces.
Comedy Central recently filmed pilots for another multi-cam comedy, Mumm’s Boys, and a non-scripted entertainment format titled The Almost Impossible Gameshow.
