Spanish broadcaster welcomes its Rising Star
Spain’s Atresmedia has acquired Israeli singing format Rising Star – the show’s second confirmed deal in two days.
Atresmedia operates the Antena 3 and laSexta commercial broadcast channels and one of these will run Rising Star.
Yesterday, the UK’s ITV confirmed it was to launch its own version of the format. That followed other agreements with ABC in the US, TV2 in Hungary, M6 in France, RTL in Germany, Rossiya1 in Russia, Nordisk in Scandinavia and Toro in Italy.
Rising Star comes from Israel’s Tedy Productions and is sold internationally by Keshet International, the global arm of Keshet Media Group.
The interactive talent format sees performers singing behind a giant LED screen. If they secure 70% of judges and audiences votes, the latter of which are made through a downloaded app integrated into the show, the screen rises and the new ‘star’ revealed.
On Keshet Broadcasting-owned Channel 2, it began to a record-breaking debut and the most recent episode on Tuesday scored a 49% share. Keshet claims more than nine million votes have been registered and that second screen participation is ten times higher than any other Israeli show.
