History, Red Arrow in Halle Berry Hannibal miniseries
US cable channel History has partnered with international producer Red Arrow Entertainment and actress Halle Berry to produce a miniseries based on African general Hannibal.
The series, Hannibal (WT), will be coproduced by History’s production cousin A+E Studios and ProSiebenSat.1-owned Red Arrow. Oscar-nominated writer Jeffrey Caine is penning the scripts, with Berry (Monster’s Ball) executive producing.
The miniseries will chart the rivalry of general Hannibal Barca and Scipio Africanus, who went up against each other in the Second Punic War, which ran between 218 and 201BC. It will begin in 264BC in Carthage at the beginning of Hannibal’s life in North Africa.
History has already found success with historical miniseries The Bible, which has been one of the highest rating series of the year. It is also behind Vikings and the ground-breaking docu-drama Hatfields & McCoys.
Berry exec produces alongside Steven Jensen, Vincent Cirrincione and Caine, with Simon Maxwell doing the same for Red Arrow and Dirk Hoogstra, Elaine Frontain Bryant and Julian P. Hobbs performing the role for A+E Networks-owned History.
