Starz launches on Xbox

US cable net Starz has launched its TV everywhere service on the Xbox platform. Starz Play is now available on Xbox Live in the US.

Users must be authenticated as Starz subscribers after which they can download the official app and watch episodes of the cable channel’s programming including pirate series Black Sails (pictured).

The launch marks the first time Starz Play has launched on a home entertainment console.

Meanwhile, Starz said its other TV everywhere services, Encore Play and Movieplex Play, will launch on the Xbox platform next year.

Michael Thornton, Starz chief revenue officer said: “With the dynamic Starz Play Xbox user interface, which includes full voice and gesture support with Kinect, we have developed a tremendous new vehicle for subscribers to enjoy the unmatched Starz premium TV experience on the television.”
