Discovery, Foxtel chart Rise of the Nazi Party
Discovery Networks Western Europe and Australian pay platform Foxtel are among buyers of a new history-themed series about the emergence of the Nazi Party in Germany.
DNI sister company SBS Discovery Media and Planete have also acquired the 10x50mins series for Scandinavia and France respectively.
The Rise of the Nazi Party comes from UK indie World Media Rights and tells the story of how Adolf Hitler and his followers manipulated the German population into becoming willing participants in some of the worst mass crimes in human history, eventually triggering World War II.
World Media Rights’ creative director Matthew Barrett said: “This series is part reminder, part warning. It shows that under certain economic conditions, in which mainstream politicians can’t address the concerns of ordinary people, then even decent, respectable folk can be manipulated by extremist movements.”
IMG Entertainment, which is part of the IMG group recently sold in principle to LA agency William Morris Endeavor for US$2.3 billion, has international distribution rights.
