Rising Star blossoms in Turkey
Israeli singing format Rising Star has been picked up the prodco behind Turkish remakes of The Voice and Got Talent.
Acun Medya will produce a local version of the talent show, which has already sold to the likes of ITV in the UK and ABC in the US. No Turkish broadcaster is attached at the stage.
The Keshet International-sold format puts a twist on the traditional talent competition format by placing the contestant alone behind a giant LED screen, which will lift and reveal them to an audience if they secure more than 70% of votes from judges, a live audience and home viewers using a dedicated app.
Acun Ilıcalı, CEO at Acun Medya, said: “We believe Rising Star’s technological twist is going to begin a new era in television where the audience has real-time control over the course of live programmes.”
Rising Star began life in Israel on Keshet Channel 2, where the finale peaked with a 58% domestic audience share, according to figures Keshet International provided.
Besides the US and UK, the format has sold to Toro in Italy, Atresmedia in Spain, RTL in Germany, Rossiya1 in Russia, Nordisk in the Nordics, M6 in France, TV2 in Hungary, Rede Globo in Brazil and TVI in Portugal.
