Buccaneer Media hires unscripted boss
Buccaneer Media has recruited Ross McCarthy as its head of unscripted.
The role is a new one at UK-based producer Bucaneer, which is backed by production and distribution group Cineflix and run by former Lime Pictures boss Tony Wood.
McCarthy was head of development at UK indie Outline Productions until the end of last year, working on shows including BBC Worldwide Channel’s first format commission Million Dollar Intern. His other credits include Britain’s Big Wildlife Revival for BBC One, and Tom Kerridge’s Proper Pub Food for BBC Two.
He will start at Buccaneer next month and his appointment reflects the prodco’s desire to ramp up activity the unscripted world.
Tony Wood said: “Ross has a proven track record of creating fantastic factual entertainment formats with high-profile talent. I am really looking forward to mixing up his skills and background with the structured reality programming we’ve been developing.”
Ross McCarthy said: “I have wanted to play in the structured reality space for some time, so the opportunity to work with the genre’s godfather was too good to turn down.”
