Lifetime gambles on The Lottery
US cable net Lifetime has commissioned a conspiracy thriller titled The Lottery – the A+E Networks-owned channel’s second scripted greenlight in days.
Last week, female-skewed Lifetime ordered 10 episodes of Un-Real, a drama set behind-the-scenes at a popular reality TV show.
The Lottery will also be 10 episodes and is set in a dystopian future in which women have stopped having children and humanity is facing extinction until 100 embryos are fertilised and lottery held to decide the surrogates.
Timothy J. Sexton (Children of Men) wrote the scripts and is also executive producer alongside Dawn Olmstead (Prison Break) and Danny Cannon (CSI, Nikita), who also directed the pilot.
Grady Girl Productions is attached for production duties in association with Rizzoli & Isles producer Warner Horizon Television.
“The Lottery is one of the most provocative and original concepts we’ve ever seen,” sais Lifetime’s executive VP and general manager Rob Sharenow. “Tim Sexton’s unique dystopian thriller represents an exciting new direction for Lifetime and continues cable’s position on the leading edge of bold, high-quality scripted drama.”
