David Beckham, BBC team for Brazil doc
Football icon David Beckham has partnered with BBC Worldwide and UK terrestrial channel BBC One for a 1x90mins doc in which he will experience life in the Brazilian rainforest.
Beckham’s management firm XIX Entertainment, which Pop Idol co-creator Simon Fuller runs, is coproducing through its XIX Productions imprint with BBCWW and the BBC.
The Beckham Documentary (WT) will air on BBC One in June, close to the opening ceremony of the FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The doc, from filmmaker Anthony Mandler, will show Beckham and three friends as they travel to the Brazilian rainforest . The ex-Manchester United and Real Madrid player has been camping out in Brazil for the past two week for the show.
BBC Worldwide is taking the project to Cannes for MIPTV in April.
Helen Jackson, managing director, content, BBCWW said: “This is an unforgettable documentary set in the heart of the dense Amazon rainforest following David Beckham. Through his eyes, audiences will experience life in the jungle, something so distant from David’s life on and off the pitch and in the glare of the world’s media”.
Sam Bickley commissioned the doc.
