BBC America goes Almost Royal with first comedy
BBC America has ordered a seven-part half-hour comedy from Burning Bright Productions – a move that marks US cable channel’s first commission in the genre.
Almost Royal will follow a pair of young British aristocrats played by Ed Gamble and Amy Hoggart whose first trip to the US is filmed by a camera crew.
The series will debut on the network on Sunday, June 21 in a primetime slot after the season two finale of original drama Orphan Black.
Clive Tulloh is executive producing and Seamus Murphy-Mitchell producing.
BBC Worldwide has international distribution rights.
BBC America has moved into original dramas through the likes of Orphan Black, Intruders and Copper but to this point had relied on acquired comedies such as Twenty Twelve, Absolutely Fabulous, The Thick of It and The Inbetweeners.
