First original Polish drama for AXN
Sony Pictures Television channel AXN Central Europe is getting its first local production for the Polish market – a three-part crime miniseries based on a Swedish drama.
Polish TV producer Greg Zgliński (One Long Winter Without Fire, Pitbull) is directing the currently unnamed series, which is based on TV4’s Swedish crime series Mordem I Sandhamn.
Igor Brejdygant (Paradoks, Palimpsest) is writing the scripts and Opus Films (The Master, Your Name Is Justine) is attached to produce. Casting on the 3x60mins series has begun.
Mordem I Sandhamn was based on Viveca Sten’s novel Still Waters. It is billed as a “mix of crime, lust and beautiful surroundings” in which a series of murders occur in the middle of an idyllic beach community. Shine International sells the rights to the format globally.
SPT’s AXN pay TV channels broadcast action and crime dramas, though line-ups differ in territories around the world.
“Our goal is to produce something different, telling an international crime story through a unique Polish lens,” said John Rossiter, SPT Networks CE’s general manager. “The crime genre is extremely popular in Poland and we think the time is right for AXN to start producing high-quality, original local content.”
The show is set to debut in autumn this year.
