Host in a Box shipped to Spain
Spanish broadcaster Cuatro has commissioned the second overseas version of Endemol’s German factual entertainment format Host in a Box.
The format – in which presenters are locked in wooden boxes, shipped to unfamiliar locations and asked to immerse themselves in local life – launched in German on ProSieben and subsequently sold to Super TV2 in Hungary.
Endemol Spain is producing Cuatro’s version, which will see a different host in each episode shipped to undisclosed locations around Spain.
Endemol says the original German version, which came from Endemol Germany, outperformed its regular slot average by 12%, leading to its international launch at MIPTV last week.
“This latest deal in Spain is a great example of how the format can be reworked for any territory and we expect viewers will love seeing the host thrown out of their comfort zone into an entirely new world,” said Iris Boelhouwer, Endemol’s managing director of creative operations.
