Iconic kids series Danger Mouse gets rebooted
Iconic animated series Danger Mouse is the latest kids show to be resurrected.
UK public broadcaster the BBC’s digital kids channel CBBC will air the new version of the classic show, about a crime-fighting rodent and his hamster sidekick.
The original series (pictured) was produced by Cosgrove Hall for ITV franchisee Thames Television. It debuted on ITV in 1981.
FremantleMedia Kids & Family Entertainment owns the property and is making the series with the BBC and UK indie Boulder Media. FremantleMedia, which has a five-year production deal with the BBC’s kids channels, will distribute the 52x11mins show internationally.
CBBC controller Cheryl Taylor commissioned the new show, which will have a ‘mixed media’ look. Tracey Beaker writer Ben Ward will pen the new series and FremantleMedia’s Bob Higgins and CBBC’s Sarah Muller will be exec producers.
Danger Mouse co-creator Brian Cosgrove will serve as a consultant on the new show.
The commission is the latest in a spate of reboots for classic and well-known kids series. Remakes of Teletubbies, Thunderbirds and The Powerpuff Girls have all been recently announced.
