Sky 1 orders latest comedy-drama

UK satellite channel Sky 1 HD has commissioned a six-part comedy drama about a teenager living reaching adulthood in a small Northern English town.

After Hours will follow James Tarpey (The World’s End) as an 18 year-old with no job or prospects who gets by listening to a local internet radio station.

Jamie Winstone (Kidulthood), Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted) and John Thomson (Cold Feet) are among the acting talent.

Craig Cash (The Café) executive produces and directs the show, which Molly Naylor and John Osborne wrote. Cash’s Jellylegs Productions produces, with Jellylegs exec Lucy Ansbro also executive producing alongside BSkyB’s head of comedy Lucy Lumsden, who commissioned the show.

Sky Vision has international sales rights.

“After Hours is a beautifully written series about growing up in a small Northern town, which will capture the hearts of our Sky 1 customers,” said Lumsden.

Sky’s current original comedy output includes Doll & Em, Moone Boy and Stella. The 21^st Century Fox-backed satcaster claims it is on to spend £600 million on original British programming for the first time during 2014.
