CBBC, ZDFE visit Scream Street
UK children’s channel CBBC has come on board a fast-paced comedy series that Germany’s ZDF Enterprises will sell on the international market.
The 52x11mins Scream Street will be a stop-motion animation series from UK indies Coolabi and Factory Transmedia, the latter of which has just joined as coproducer. Puppet and model making firm Mackinnon & Saunders are creating the cast ensemble.
ZDFE has international rights (excluding the UK, US and Australia), and has Germany licensing rights.
CBBC plans to begin broadcasting the show in 2016, with some footage available at MIPCOM in Cannes in October.
Written by Tommy Donbavand and published by Walker Books, the Scream Street books upon which the TV show is based follow a regular teenager, who is transferred to live on a street of quirky zombies, vampires, witches and monsters after a government agency discovers his DNA includes a werewolf gene.
“Scream Street is a stylish, spooky comedy, full of wonderful characters that will have instant appeal for the older end of the CBBC audience,” said Cheryl Taylor, controller, CBBC (pictured). “The style and pace promise to be like no other CBBC stop-frame animated show.”
“With its super cool look, great storylines and humour, it will appeal to kids and their families all over the globe,” added Katharina Pietzsch, director, ZDFE.junior, ZDFE’s kids brand.
