Burn Notice creator scores overall Fox deal

Scripted cable producer Matt Nix is targeting broadcast networks after signing a new overall deal at Twentieth Century Fox Television and Fox Television Studios.

The deal will see Nix developing and producing new cable and broadcast series.He previously had a deal with FTVS, primarily for cable networks, which had begun in 2008.

Nix is best known as creator and executive producer of USA Network’s Burn Notice, which ran for seven seasons and was a major success for FTVS. He is also behind the upcoming USA drama Complications and co-created FX’s The Comedians, and the now-cancelled comedy The Good Guys, which was his first broadcast show.

FTVS president David Madden said Nix was “rare find in television: a gifted creator, writer, showrunner, producer and director, as well as a genuinely good person”, adding Burn Notice was the “most commercial successful show” in his studio’s history.

“Dana [Walden] and Gary [Newman, Twentieth Century Fox Television co-CEOs and chairmen] have been enormously supportive of Matt all along and are eager to help him expand into the broadcast arena and other interesting platforms,” said Madden.

Nix, who began his career as a feature writer for the lies of Warner Bros. and Paramount, is currently developing a TV project for premium cabler HBO, and is said to have “a number” of others in the works.
