Channel 4 to explore Immigration Street

The UK’s Channel 4 has commissioned Love Productions to make an ob doc series about a British street that has been transformed by immigration.

C4’s head of documentaries Nick Mirsky has green-lit the 6x60mins show, Immigration Street (WT) which will follow the lives residents living on an ethnically diverse street in Southampton, UK, where the majority of residents were not born in the UK.

Producer Love said the series will explore how the changing population is shaping the community.

Programming around immigration has become a ratings-winner for networks as political debates around the subject intensify in the UK.

“Immigration is clearly an emotive issue dominating British politics and debates right now,” said Mirsky. “Although the experience of the changes brought about by immigration will be different from place to place, we expect many of the themes that emerge from following life on Derby Road will resonate across the country.”

Love Production’s creative director, factual Kieran Smith has named executive producer. He also oversaw Love other controversy-creating C4 shows Make Bradford British, My Last Summer and Benefits Street.

The series is set to air in early 2015.
