School of Rock sets for Nick TV remake

School of Rock, the 2003 Jack Black comedy film, is being made into a TV series for US kids cable channel Nickelodeon.

The musical, live-action series will come from Nick and Paramount Television. This marks the first time the Viacom stablemates have collaborated on a TV series.

School of Rock will be a 13-part series that is set to go into production ahead of a premiere in spring 2015. Casting will be announced at a later date.

The show will follow downtrodden rocker Dewey Finn, who poses as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school and teaches its eccentric students a love of rock ‘n’ roll.

“We are thrilled our first foray into kids programming will be a straight-to-series order with our Viacom partners at Nickelodeon,” said Amy Powell, president, Paramount Television. “With Dewey’s outrageous personality and rock star sensibilities taking center stage, School of Rock will be an irresistibly fun show for the whole family.”

Jim and Steve Armogida (Crash & Bernstein) will write and show run the series. They will also executive produce alongside the School of Rock movie director Richard Linklater (Boyhood) and producer Scott Rudin.
