House of Cards writer making doc special for Nat Geo

Beau Willimon, the writer of Netflix’s House of Cards, is making a one-off doc for National Geographic US about one man’s solo walk across the US.

Willimon and music producer Jordan Tappis are making The Walk Around the World through their US prodco Westward Productions.

Karl Bushby, a former British paratrooper, is walking from Los Angeles to Washington in a trek that will take him to the Russian Embassy, where he will appeal for permission to walk through Russia and complete his planned 20-year, 36,000-mile, trek around the world.

Willimon and Tappis will trek with Bushby on part of the US leg of his mammoth journey. Having left his native Britain, Bushby has already trekked through South and Central America.

He encountered problems when he reached Russia where authorities banned his trek, a decision he will appeal in Washington.
